Naval architect John Lu founded the Horizon shipyard in 1987. In the early years Horizon operated with merely 30 employees beginning production with a 46’ motoryacht.

Today, 20 years later, Horizon is one of the 10 biggest shipyards in the world and well known in America, Europe and Asia as state-of-the-art producer of one of the finest lines of yachts available today. Horizon yachts are custom built at the Horizon yard in Taiwan where a truly international effort has blended top quality specification and project management, elegant design, and the value and craftsmanship for which Taiwan is renowned. The Horizon yard, located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is the largest and most modern yard in Taiwan being twice the size of its nearest competitor. Having delivered over 400 vessels worldwide, Horizon has now grown to over 1,300 employees in 6 different facilities. Operating under the Horizon Group name are the Horizon, Vision and Premier shipyards, Atech Composite facility, the newest member of the Horizon Group family – Q & E Interior Mill Works, and the US based office – the Horizon Group Support Center.

The Horizon shipyard builds vessels over 70’, whereas Vision covers vessels up to 80’ along with the new Vision line of classic styled yachts. The Premier shipyard opened in 2006 and is responsible for the Premier line of vessels 105’ and larger Megayachts. Atech Composites is Horizon’s lamination facility constructing one-piece hulls up to 150’ using the patented SCRIMP method. Q & E Interior Mill Works completes the Horizon Group family by specializing on cabinetry and quality woodworking Horizon is known for throughout the world.
